White Harbor
White Harbor stands on the east bank of the White Knife, where the river meets a fjord of the Bite. It is the smallest of the five great cities of the Seven Kingdoms and the largest town north of the Neck. Its cobbled streets run straight, and its houses are whitewashed stone under steep roofs of dark slate.
The Manderlys came here from the Reach, driven out by their enemies there, and a Stark king took them in. They swore to Winterfell before the old gods and the new and were given the Wolf’s Den, the old Stark castle at the river mouth. Around it they built their city. The Wolf’s Den is a prison now; the Manderlys rule from the New Castle on its hill.
More knights live here than anywhere else in the North, and more who keep the Seven; the Sept of the Snows raises the Seven in stone above its dome. Ships carry timber, wool and hides out across the Bite, and White Harbor ale is drunk as far off as Braavos.
