Last Hearth
Last Hearth stands in a forest east of the kingsroad, north of the Last River and close to the Gift. Leave aside the castles of the Night’s Watch and it is the northernmost great castle in the Seven Kingdoms. North of it there is only the Gift, and then the Wall.
House Umber holds it. The Umbers were kings here in the Age of Heroes. They still run to great size and long beards, and they bend the knee to Winterfell and to no one else. Their banner is a roaring giant in broken silver chains on a field of red.
Their lands run along the Bay of Seals and south of the New Gift, west as far as the kingsroad, and they take in the Lonely Hills. Wildlings who cross the Wall to raid often come down through Umber country, and the Umbers have long practice in meeting them.
